House of Digitalization Tulln

A digital lighthouse

The House of Digitalization in Tulln is intended to be a flagship project for the digitalisation strategy of the state of Lower Austria. The House of Digitalization is intended to form the interface between the real and virtual worlds and make the paradigm shift of digitalization tangible. The building relates both to the existing UAS building and to the entire campus. A transparent ground floor zone opens it up to the city and creates an inviting gateway to the campus. The structural connection to the existing UAS building also enables the design of a shared green courtyard as a central meeting point. The House of Digitalization is designed as a modern, forward-looking building with an appearance appropriate to its use. A multi-layered media façade, which can be used in different ways and can also be retrofitted, makes the content visible from the outside and communicates the topic of digitalization in its surroundings. The “House of Digitalization” was awarded the prestigious BIG SEE Architecture Award in 2023 for its outstanding architectural quality. The sustainable concept was awarded klimaaktiv Silver certification.

A spacious foyer

The main entrance at the corner leads into a spacious, three-storey foyer, which is characterised by natural light and serves as the central vertical heart of the building. The neighbouring showroom, the technical college to the west, the restaurant area on the ground floor and the upper and lower floors are accessed from here. The start-up and co-working area is located on the first floor, while the extension to the university of applied sciences is housed on the first floor. An attractive meeting area floats above the showroom and offers impressive views of the surrounding area.

Interface between the digital and real world

The showroom forms the central heart of the House of Digitalisation and makes the digital transformation tangible. Its architectural significance is emphasised by the generous room height and spaciousness. The open room proportions, combined with views and insights from all floors, create an impressive spatial experience. Functionally, the showroom is designed as a versatile space that allows flexible and sustainable adaptation to future utilisation options.
